Charles I

[edit]

If you want to be ultra-formalistic you can argue that Charles I was not deposed, but for all practical purposes he was. If cutting a monarch's head off in public after a public trial is not for all practical purposes deposing them what is? The Scots were not involved in deposing him, but they did rise up before the English, handed him over to the English parliament, and although they proclaimed Charles II after the execution of Charles I they only allowed him to come to Scotland after he agreed to their conditions and they executed Montrose, his general.
