Amerime is supposedly a portmanteau word for American anime. Short poll among committed anime fanboys of my acquaintance: unanimously never heard it. (One comment: There is American anime, but there isn't this word.) Interesting comment on Amerime talk page: "This is back? I posted this a while ago and it was sacked by the VfD crowd. Truth be told I made up the term and hadn't actually seen it used anywhere else before a Google search. To my surprise, several other people had got th same idea." -Litefantastic 11:13, 27 Apr 2004 (UTC) Has this in fact been thrown out once on VfD? I don't know how to search for that. Keep. The page has potentally useful information, if a rather esoteric title- why doesn't soneone just rename it, or merge it with the anime page? User:CapitolZ
Alright. Here's what happened:

I made this word up. I confess, it's true. To be absolutely fair, a google search revealed a few (and only a few) independant parallel-creations of the word. Oh course, I only looked it up after I'd created the article, and by then I'd more or less set the ball rolling.

Ironically, exactly what I was hoping for, happened: I was going to use Wikipedia as a springboard for the creation of a new word. I confess I ignored the rules saying you can't do this. As something of an atonement, I didn't dispute its deletion when it was taken down that first time, and didn't repost it. Really. But someone else did.

Since then the word has spread. I've touched up its article here, but I haven't done anything else. I vote--this should surprise no one--to keep, but I think we're actually in the stage where its gotten too big to be killed. Sorry about all that. -Litefantastic 20:04, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Looking through Google results, use is mostly in forum/bulletin-board posts, which I don't think is that significant. For now, merge content into anime and redirect. But I would not be too surprised if the term gains enough currency to warrant its own article later (i.e. when people who make this stuff regularly call it amerime instead of just anime). --Michael Snow 17:55, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)
I'm not opposed to the creation of new words, especially when it fits and has a place. If it was true that there were parallel creations, then wikipedia was not used to create the word, just proliferate it. Anyone who has regularily watched animé would recognize amerimé it its meaning, even if they had never heard it before. This would make it difficult for any single person to have created it, or in the very least trace it to its orgin. Since there is a growing number of shows who are showing great influence from animé, for various reasons, I think the word has an undisputable place, although perhaps an ambiguous meaning, (how much influence would qualify a show for amerimé?) If you haven't figured it out yet, I vote to keep the article. (Weatherman667, how do you do a stock date/time/name stamp?)

Merge. Then the most logical action is to merge with the parent term "anime". By name alone, it is clearly related to anime. KyuuA4 16:05, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
