Tanzania
[edit]In April 2018, the president declared Dodoma to be the national capital, and in September, the National Assembly followed suit, passing the Dodoma Capital City Declaration Act, which explicitly and officially designated Dodoma as Tanzania's one and only capital city. ¹ Executive ministries have all transferred to Dodoma and the president states that he is only taking more time in Dar es Salaam because his mother is sick, declaring, "I will move soon. My mother is critically sick and that has prevent [sic] me from shifting at the moment. But I want to assure you that the move to Dodoma is now complete." ¹ ²
Clearly, the Wikipedia page incorrectly makes it sound like Dar es Salaam is still the "de facto" capital, with no recent changes in the staus quo. The reality is that Dodoma has been officially designated as the one and only capital, with the transfer of all ministries now complete.
Bolivia
[edit]This seems to be treated differently to all other countries with more than one capital. There are two country entries here, one for La Paz, and one for Sucre.
In other cases, the country is listed once only, with the capital that has primacy listed alphabetically. Other capitals are shown underneath the principal capital but in the same entry.
The Netherlands
[edit]The Dutch constitution says that Amsterdam is the Hoofdstad (capital) of the Netherlands, and The Hague is just the place where all the government is. That does not mean there is a de facto and a de jure capital, just a difference between the seat of government and legal capital. - https://www.government.nl/documents/reports/2019/02/28/the-constitution-of-the-kingdom-of-the-netherlands 2001:1C06:2603:8B00:60E1:C9C0:48B2:A1FC (talk) 18:46, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
Tibet
[edit]This article includes cities claimed as capitals by an independence movement that are not controlled by them (for example Laayoune as the claimed capital of Western Sahara, currently controlled by Morocco), and cities that are claimed as capitals by entities whose sovereignty is disputed, such as Tskhinvali and Tiraspol. Should Lhasa then not be included as the claimed capital of an independent Tibet, even if its sovereignty is disputed and it is controlled by the PRC? Or is there some reason I am unaware of why it isn't included and the examples I mentioned are? Mrmaxmik (talk) 10:30, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- All the entities you mention manage to exist in some way, although Laayoune is an odd exception in not being the actual capital but a claimed one. There is no independent Tibetan entity. CMD (talk) 11:15, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, that makes sense. About Laayoune, there is about 20% of the Western Sahara territory that is controlled by the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, so even if that does not include Laayoune you could say they "manage to exist" as you put it. This would make it similar to claimed but not de facto capitals like Jerusalem for both Israel and Palestine. Mrmaxmik (talk) 12:03, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
