Study in UK schools
[edit]The article currently states:
"The book was once studied in English Literature GCSE, but was dropped because it didn't originate from Britain.[24]"
This is incorrect, I am an exam marker currently marking hundreds of UK English Literature GCSE essays on 'Of Mice and Men'. Could this incorrect information please be changed? Please see this article:

Stolen From My Family's Tragedy
[edit]The whole story Of Mice and Men was taken by Steinbeck, who was known to drink too much and visit the cemetery, from my family tragedy. Steinbeck's family plot is very near my Mattart family plot. My great great grandfather (George Wheelock Mattart) who was indeed a pugnacious foreman and admitted at his death that he had threatened to kill any man who harassed his wife (Susan Logwood-Mattart, my great great grandmother) but he remained unarmed except for a knife, was consequently murdered on a Spreckels, CA farm by his hired hand (Iams) who was there to rape my grandmother after Iams had been drinking. My great great grandfather, who was gathering wood and did not carry a gun, challenged Iams when he came to the foreman's cabin. Iams said he was going to kill him which is a cold-blooded statement. My Grandpa dropped the fire-wood then reached for his knife and was shot by Iams who was later hunted down and charged with first degree murder. Because of the distance to medical help in those days my great great grandfather died. Iams stole a horse and attempted to flee but could not evade the law and was ultimately convicted for his crime. Despite the character being flirtatious and shallow, my grandmother was not flirtatious as evidenced in her never taking a man again and dying a widow with a 6-year-old son at the time of his father's death.
Susan Logwood and her brother, Samuel, moved at an early age from Waxahachie, Texas by way of Alabama. My mom favored her. She didn't account for much but raised her son to be a man. He had two sons Wilbur and Tom Mattart. George Mattart may forever be remembered as the guy who brought a knife to a gunfight. Don't take a knife to a gun fight. People v. Iams, 6 P.C.L.J 882 (1880). 2603:8080:3EF0:8DB0:8D30:C143:70C0:4C76 (talk) 13:04, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
