Raju?

[edit]

I was conversing with a friend and was talking about Jeolla's history as a shortened name, and I pondered why it was Jeonna due to Naju's name changing from Raju. The friend (who is from South Korea) insisted that its name was never Raju. I thought it fell under the initial rule, but upon reading it up I don't see this ever occuring with 'a' as a vowel--it's almost an exclusively /j/ thing--nor does the name seem to be Sino-Korean. The name was added in this edit in 2005, but do North Koreans really call it Raju? It's not mentioned on the Korean wikipedia article for Naju either. If they do, is this actually due to the initial rule or is it merely a coincidental difference in pronunciation? - MK (t/c) 07:52, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
