Small Linguistics Error. Any Reason or Just mistake?

[edit]

The article formerly said ..."noted as his long-running-role as..." I believe this should be "noted for his long-running-role as" and changed it to such. Is there any reason it was written as the former? Just seems surprising to me that such an obvious mistake would make it through, particularly in the lead sentence. Aren't people noted "for" thing, not "as" things? Or is the reasoning that, since SpongeBob is a character, the former is appropriate? Am I making a mountain out of a molehill? I'm pretty sure he wasn't a part of ANY English dub of DBZ. And he CERTAINLY wasn't a voice actor in the Japanese version in 1989... :/ Linkdude20002001 (talk) 08:00, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alex Bennett Show on KITS/San Francisco

What I know about Tom Kenny, that he was a frequent comedy guest on Alex Bennett's morning show (KITS-FM/San Francisco) in the mid to late 1980s (before his move to Southern California).....and Alex Bennett also has a Wiki article too.98.207.68.146 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:01, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that there's absolutely no mention of Kenny's role as Wally Langford in the short-lived show Mission Hill on here anywhere. Is there any specific reason for this? 63.155.170.106 (talk) 22:25, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Voice actor in occupation

[edit]

I just want to ask this to make sure if it's ok, is it ok if we add "voice actor" in the info-box in occupation section. Not only does he do live action acting, because he also does voice acting in animated shows as well, shouldn't that be important for the info-box too? Because he does do voice acting most of all too. FrozenFan2 (talk) 01:44, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Kenny has voiced many cartoons, but "actor" by itself already encompasses his live-action and voice roles, and it feels repetitive to include "actor" twice in the opening sentence or infobox listings. If his filmography consisted solely of voice roles like Jim Cummings, it would be better to simply say "voice actor". Snuggums (talk / edits) 03:44, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think I'm starting to get it, I just wanted to ask that here just to make sure before adding it back again. But now I have my answer now. FrozenFan2 (talk) 14:27, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The occupation should be the ones they are most notable for. If 90% of their roles are voice, if they identify themselves as a voice actor, then they're a voice actor. If there's a mix, the lead sentence can be constructed as "actor who does voice-over work" and actor is a broader grouping. As a side note, many voice actors sing as part of their acting background, but they don't get listed as a "singer" in the occupation or a musical artist module unless they've recorded singles and albums outside of their voice work. There was a voice actor whose day job was a teacher, but putting "teacher" in the infobox was not notable. Actors who were most famous for their live-action work but dabble in voice-over such as Ashley Tisdale or Robin Williams are listed as actors. Semi-protected edit request on 8 July 2015 Rocko's Modern Life Addition

[edit]

Rocko's Modern Life Tom Kenny provided the voice for Heffer Wolfe, one of Rocko's bestfriends. Despite the name of the Character he is actually a large cow, adopted and raised by wolves. He voiced the character from 1992 to 1996 when the series was cancelled. Though the character was actually brought back for Camp Lazlo. Godzilla the series

[edit]

Tom Kenny also did the voice of the robot known as Nigel in the tv series known as Godzilla the series. In the series Nigel would get destroyed either by Godzilla himself, or by one of the many monsters in the show. Now Tom Kenny did the voice of the robot. Both before he was destroyed, or while it was screaming. This was before he did the voice of Spongebob Squarepants — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.36.101.30 (talk) 09:09, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've recently noticed that Tom Kenny's kids names are listed in the Infobox, instead it should say "2". Because according to Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, non notable family member names should not be listed in the Infobox, instead, having the number of kids should be listed in there instead of there actually names. Hope this makes sense and understandable, I'm not trying to confuse everyone. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 2600:1000:B00E:1D74:C51:2B0B:F1D6:455C (talk) 04:13, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

About Tom Kenny Request

[edit]

I'd like to request that he be classified as a voice actor and singer next to his occupations as an actor and comedian.Austin012599 (talk) 22:13, 23 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done "Voice actor" is redundant when "actor" already covers both his live-action and voice-over work, plus it's repetitive to use the word "actor" twice in opening sentence. "Singer" isn't warranted when he's not at all known as such. Snuggums (talk / edits) 01:41, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

He does provide the singing voice of Spongebob. Also, there are albums of Spongebob songs.

Plus, I think you guys are underestimating what a voice actor really is. Austin012599 (talk) 19:50, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not "underestimating" anything. Also, just because he's been featured on SpongeBob soundtracks doesn't mean people know him as a singer. It's nowhere near as prominent as the actual characters he plays (whether a voice role or live action). Snuggums (talk / edits) 20:08, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Kenny would need to have a career as a singer for it to be listed in the infobox as with Ashley Tisdale discography AngusWOOF (barksniff) 14:07, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, why not voice artist? It is a synonym for voice actor, but surely it can be a better and less repetitive term to describe Kenny by.Austin012599 (talk) 02:25, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Austin012599, I've tried voice artist before, but for actors who've done a lot of notable work on stage and on screen first as with Tom Kenny, Tara Strong, and Ashley Tisdale, it doesn't stick. As previously said, including actor and voice actor is redundant. If the person self-identifies mainly as a voice actor, as with Dee Bradley Baker, who made a website on how to be one, then yes, voice actor would be fine. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 13:11, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The term "voice artist" worked for Chris Parnell when the term "voice actor" didn't fit him. I should know, because I put that there before I even became a member. It took a while, until it was finally settled that he be called a voice artist.

Aside from that, this is why I thought at first that people were underestimating what a voice actor or voice artist is. The word actor or actress doesn't apply to every kind of performance. Not every actor can do what people like Tom Kenny or Tara Strong can do. For instance, Bill Murray has done voice-overs, but he can't change his voice or do things that Kenny or Strong can do. There's a big difference between the occupation of voice actor & just plain actor.

Also, it's just not very satisfying to call someone a simple actor when really they can do so much more when they perform or work in the movie industry.Austin012599 (talk) 18:19, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I want to point out that he is a musician and singer as well, even having his own group called Tom Kenny & The Hi Seas. I don't know how to actually word this but I feel his occupation has a musician should be brought up, I also have a source to back it up as well. 73.240.105.138 (talk) 13:55, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Commission: Rename Filmography Guide

[edit]

It's interesting to note that some actors have the fancier sounding List of (actor/actress name goes here) Performances. As in the cases for him and fellow voice artiste Tara Strong, their filmography guides rather have that naming convention in lieu of the trite and bland sounding naming convention of (Actor/actress name goes here) Filmography.

I had tried having the latter to have her filmography guide renamed to a pair of admins named Anarchyte and CambridgeBayWeather but both of them denied the request.

So is it a magnificent idea to have their filmography guides to be renamed to those? Though Grey Griffin has too many voices in her name the aforementioned header should be kept.

Hope someone respond to this ASAP.

67.81.163.178, why rename when most of the filmographies out there are of this convention. The exceptions are if they wrap the discography, stage appearances, or awards on the same list. See Category:Actor filmographies AngusWOOF (barksniff) 22:39, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Transformers "Razzies"

[edit]

The Golden Raspberry Awards for the Transformers films don't seem to belong in Tom Kenny's awards and noms. He wasn't specifically nominated or named at all in the ceremonies.
