Pulling from transcripts

[edit]

I edited the section concerning Hirota's sentence to better reflect the IMTFE's holding. The previous version of this section stated that Hirota had no authority or influence over the military units whatsoever. According to the tribunal transcripts, the latter half of that statement is inaccurate, for the tribunal spoke of Hirota's positional influence within the Japanese government. See The Complete Transcripts of the Proceedings of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, reprinted in R. John Pritchard and Sonia Magbanua Zaide (eds.), The Tokyo War Crimes Trial, vol. 20, 49,816 (R. John Pritchard and Sonia Magbanua Zaide, eds. Garland Publishing: New York and London 1981). A reprinting in part exists online within the ICTY decision, Prosecutor v. Delalic, et al., Case No. IT-96-21-T, Trial Judgment (Nov. 16, 1998) para. 357.[1]

Removed image

[edit]

Removed an image as the article was getting pretty cluttered. In my opinion it did not contribute much: it was an image of where Hirota's birthplace used to be (it's a parking space). I also removed an inline link to an image of the engraving on the statue that shows Hirota's father's name. Both images are in the Commons category linked at the bottom of the article. Infobox - Convictions

[edit]

The Inbox currently includes a list of convictions "Crimes against peace; War crimes; Crimes against humanity". The article subject was convicted by the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, which did not hear charges for crimes against humanity. It did hear charges for both crimes against peace and 'ordinary' war crimes; and convicted the article subject on both these categories. Consequently, "crimes against humanity" should be removed.
