Claim in the votes for deletion:
This article is an advert for Channel9 and/or Microsoft
If this is true, then the following questions may need a response:
- Does there need to be an article at all?
- Is this a sufficiently significant phenomenon to warrant an encyclopedia article?
- If the form of the article constitutes an advertisement, what treatment does the subject matter require in order for it to constitute an encyclopeadia article?
The first two questions are essentially the same but expressed differently.
The third question only applies if the answer to the first two is 'yes'.
The case as to whether there does need to be an encyclopedia article appears to revolve around the following issues:
- Will those who wish to find an objective reference concerning this particular phenomenon expect to find it in Wikipedia?
- Will the phenomenon be persistent enough to warrant future attention?
- Is the phenomenon sufficiently unique to warrant identification and description?
- Is there sufficient detail to be given about the phenomenon to warrant its own article?
- will a large enough number of individuals be exposed to it for there to be a need for any reference to be made available?

Advert for a website -- Graham :) | Talk 12:06, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Hmm. Channel 9 is the PBS station around the Borg's HQ. Oh, Delete. Niteowlneils 14:10, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Delete - too weird - Tεxτurε 15:21, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Channel 9 created a bit of a stir in the technology weblog circles when it was started. Unknown whether it's going to be significant yet. -- Cyrius|✎ 17:05, Apr 12, 2004 (UTC)
- If it is going to stay on Wikipedia as an encyclopedia article (because it might become a significant phenomenon) then someone might want to add some 'critical context' - anti-MS bloggers are saying it is already interesting in terms of revealing genuine internal opposing factions - delete it if you are an MS fan
- Comment: Unsure so far and watching with interest. Needs serious work to the point I tend towards delete. Highly POV and it's not obvious that there's enough interest to fix it. Delete it if it's never going to be a useful article, and whether you like M$ or not doesn't come into it. Andrewa 22:00, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. not an ad really. BL 07:49, Apr 19, 2004 (UTC)
Can anyone find the text of the 'Channel9 Doctrine' on the channel9 site any more? I can't.
Ericross
Easy. Just search up "Doctrine" (without the quotes) in the Channel9 search page, the first result is the Channel9 Doctrine page. Or if you can't be bothered go to http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=12293
LoadsGood
Bias
[edit]This article has an anti-Microsoft bias.
This MAY be beneficial to offset the possibility of this article being an advertisement for Microsoft or Channel9 in particular; however, it degrades the usefulness of the Wikipedia article.
Please can anyone feels this article has an anti-Microsoft (or indeed pro-Microsoft) bias please identify the particular examples which reflect this bias, so that this claim can be addressed openly.
Niners?
[edit]Could the fact that Channel 9 users internally refer to themselves as "niners" be added to the article. Is this important enough?
Why Channel 9
[edit]If anyone knows why it is Channel 9 rather than any other number, that might be good info to add.
→ Added the origin of the name. Stitch 2.0
What is Channel 8 and Channel 10?
[edit]V4
[edit]Added stuff about v4 very briefly. Someone needs to upate properly. I'm to busy to do this right now or find references for my statements (which are on a c9 that takes about a day to load a page). Have confirmed problem with other users via IM. Please remove my stuff as soon as a proper update is made. GoddersUK (talk) 21:09, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Robert Scoble
[edit]Shouldn't Robert Scoble's heavy influence in the early days be mentioned as he is a fairly notable figure of the industry? —Preceding unsigned comment added by C.harrison1988 (talk • contribs) 23:49, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- Scoble's "influence" has been the subject of some debate; his own "It's all me" claims aren't really provable; and there have been opposite views. I dunno; it's a rather contentious issue and there's no real way to prove either viewpoint. --Blowdart | talk 05:51, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Re: Niners.
[edit]Yes, we call ourselves 'Niners'. However, there is no need. For instance, from where I come from, we are called "Amherstonians," and if you are from Halifax, "Haligonians." The demonym that is used for Channel 9 could possibly be added to the article in the sidebar (Maybe it could be useful to include this in the actual template? I will look into that.) -- azure talk × contribs 15:27, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
