I am a student of Germanic languages (specifically English, German and Dutch), and am currently working on a doctorate in Modern Languages. I chose GreenPen as my user name because I make proofreading marks (on both my work and on that of those who ask for help) in green ink. I also correct papers in green ink. People seem less shocked and dismayed when they get a paper back with green ink on it than a paper "dripping" with red-blood ink--and the edits and corrections are meant to be constructive, not destructive.

I'll probably hang out at the Germanic language and literature pages for a while and see what I can learn and what I can help with. I'm trying not to spend my entire day here, as I do have a dissertation to write...
