Talk:Central shutter
There is a mix between central shutter and leaf shutter. The article should be splitted.
You can't really describe a central shutter in a useful way without discussing the shutter blade, but OK, I'll try splitting them and see what you think... - fabricator4
On medium format and small format systems a separate viewfinder, rangefinder, or twin lens reflex system has to be provided for focusing and composition. The meaning of this sentence is unclear. Central-shutter SLRs do exist.
Also a disadvantage wrt a moving mirror was mentioned. This is not correct, this disadvantage is for an SLR, regardless of shutter type. There are focal plane shutters without a moving mirror. The classic Leica, and many others. -- Egil 18:05, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)
My mistake - this is criticism of an SLR not of a shutter - sloppy thnking - as an owner of a Leica II and moden SLRs I should have known better. Incidentally there are also some (rather rare) SLRs without a mirror The Pellix had a half silvered fixed mirror and the Periflex and Russian copies has a small retractable periscope

A reflex (SLR or TLR) has a mirror or it's not a reflex. The Pellix has a fixed mirror, an unsual feature on an SLR. The Periflex is a strange camera. It's difficult to consider it as a SLR. The periscope is not a finder it doesn't display the whole frame it's high magnification focusing help. This can be compared to the separate rangefinder of the Leica IIIa to IIIf or the Super Ikonta. I think there's a mirror in the periscope a small prism can also be used in this device. Ericd 22:18, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)
"Less expensive to produce than a focal plane shutter."
I'm not sure it's true compared to a cloth focal plane shutter a central shutter seems complex to me. Ericd 19:10, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Comment about my recent deletion : - A central shutther is most of the time located inside the lens and not between the lens and the focal plane. - I'm an European and I've never heard of it as a "Schneider shutter". Ericd 23:01, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit]"a central shutter is a type of camera shutter location."—oh, so it's not a camera shutter but a location? Rintrah 16:25, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
