Merge
[edit]I've combined all 3 articles, Gig racing, Gig rowing into this article, Cornish pilot gig. I thought this was neccessary as there was a lot of overlap, I've also added links and photos to the page. Any comments on these changes? --Cyr 09:54, 22 May 2005 (UTC)
External links
[edit]As the external links section is getting rather large. It may be an idea to sub divide it into geographical locations. However there are approixmately 80 gig clubs world wide so if every club had a website that would mean 80 external links. Some people might say that Wikipedia is not a directory. Let me know what you think via this discussion page. --Benjaminevans82 18:09, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
The current holders
[edit]I am removing a sentence ("The current holders are Looe gig club. http://www.looerowingclub.co.uk/"). It is not dated: When is "current"? It is not clear the information, which could change every year, will be kept up to date. The competition is apparently between gigs, not clubs, and the club mentioned is called Looe Rowing Club. The World Pilot Gig Championships Web site lists annual results in various categories—including, for instance, for women competitors. -- Frans Fowler (talk) 13:04, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- I 100% agree - the way in which the world championships work there are winning clubs but the amount of individual competitions held means it would be a logistical nightmare to put in the article. Also editors would have to have a good knowledge of which boats belong to which club, which whilst being easier for actual gig rowers, is not able to be accurately referenced, and would be difficult for non-rowers to edit and understand Loic baj (talk) 13:16, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
Title change
[edit]Would the title make more sense to be 'Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing', as that is what the sport actually is, the Cornish Pilot Gig is just the type of boat it is? Loic baj (talk) 13:17, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- We'd still need an article on the type of boat. Also we did have Pilot gig club but it was deleted as there were concerns over the notability of the sport. Andy Dingley (talk) 13:59, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
