Hebron
[edit]It’s not professional to say “Palestinian city” דולב חולב (talk) 21:10, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yes I agree, can this point of concern be addressed? What do others think? 2600:1008:A103:D3DC:6DC6:8134:14DA:1674 (talk) 09:04, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- It appears factual and supported by the sources. If your concerns fall within the parameters of the Israel–Palestinian conflict then it is not permitted for this discussion to be had by non-extended confirmed users. Iskandar323 (talk) 09:10, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Could you elaborate? The Great Mule of Eupatoria (talk) 07:34, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- No need to elaborate. The most recent academic i.e.,'professional', study of the city in English is Tamara Neuman's, Settling Hebron: Jewish Fundamentalism in a Palestinian City, University of Pennsylvania Press, 978-0-812-24995-8 2018. And if you don't trust the title see p.7. That 1 in 270 Hebronites happen to be Jewish doesn't change things, anymore than Craigieburn ceases to be a Victorian/Australian township because 10% of the population is Punjabi, Baba Buddha bless'em.Nishidani (talk) 11:56, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- Even if Craigieburn was 100% Punjabi, it would still be an Australian city. Even if Tamara's next book is called "Finding Love in Craigieburn, a Palestinian City" it will still be Australian.
- Hebron is claimed by the sovereign state of Israel. 209.183.211.50 (talk) 19:51, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- No it is not. nableezy - 20:54, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

In first para “compromising” should be “comprised” - the area H2 is comprised of 20% of the city. Matruman (talk) 20:48, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
- Done "comprising" to avoid the touchy. Hyphenation Expert (talk) 02:04, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

The hyperlink for matriarchs in the first section should be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriarchs_(Bible)#Matriarchs, i.e. including #Matriarchs. Otherwise it just directs to the same page as the link for *Patriarchs*. Morinator (talk) 21:55, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
Edit request: return to stable and consensual lead
[edit]One user has made a lot of changes to the lead that are both incorrect and non consensual: all mentions of the State of Palestine have been removed (so now the claim that it is the third largest city “in the country” makes no sense as no country has been mentioned up until this sentence), there is a double .. that makes no sense, it claims Hebron is close the green line when it is it not - so I humbly suggest reverting the article to the consensual, stable lead that was in this article until two weeks ago. 2A00:A041:3B9A:AC00:6CFF:3757:7454:502D (talk) 16:54, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- Not done, this edit request is unclear (see WP:EDITXY) and anyway appears to be something that would require a consensus first. Selfstudier (talk) 16:57, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
Edit request: return to stable and consensual lead (2)
[edit]There was a consensual lead that had been stable for years that has been butchered out without discussion and in a clearly non consensual way in the past two weeks. So my suggestion is to simply restore the “new”, unilateral lead to the previous, consensual one:
“Hebron (/ˈhiːbrən, ˈhɛbrən/; Arabic: الخليل al-Khalīl, pronunciationⓘ or خَلِيل الرَّحْمَن Khalīl al-Raḥmān; Hebrew: חֶבְרוֹן Ḥevrōn, pronunciationⓘ) is a Palestinian city in the southern West Bank, 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of Jerusalem. Nestled in the Judaean Mountains, it lies 930 metres (3,050 ft) above sea level. The second-largest city in the West Bank (after East Jerusalem), and the third-largest in the Palestinian territories (after East Jerusalem and Gaza), Hebron includes the Cave of the Patriarchs, which Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions all designate as the burial site of three key patriarchal/matriarchal couples. The city is often considered one of the four holy cities in Judaism as well as in Islam.” 2A02:14F:1EF:4E74:F92A:EC94:17B1:92F2 (talk) 17:02, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- Not done. This edit requires consensus (of EC editors). I will leave this unarchived for now so that they may comment if desired. Selfstudier (talk) 17:11, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- To editor Selfstudier: IP is correct that Kharbaan Ghaltaan's massive changes should be reviewed. I just deleted the whopper about it being near the Green Line, which is all I have time for at the moment. Zerotalk 03:14, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Kharbaan Ghaltaan: Can you please comment about this. I recall that we had similar issues at the State of Palestine article. Perhaps you could cease making large scale changes while we resolve this. Thank you. Selfstudier (talk) 08:22, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- I for one found them too rapid and massive to handle. I don't like the <ref =O> format for one. The Harvard style method, which simply cites the listed source and always provides pagination, is scientific, whereas the other form leaves verification hanging in the air. The Harvard system was for long the default reference form. I was tempted to revert the lot, but didn't because some edits were clearly improvements.Nishidani (talk) 09:20, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- what large scale changes. If you think its not ok, then feel free to improve it. But don't revised whole at a time. Kharbaan Ghaltaan (talk) 13:19, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- Are you saying you feel entitled to make large scale changes but other editors shouldn't?Nishidani (talk) 13:31, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- We can't have serious errors, bad English and so on. Other editors shouldn't have to improve such, that's a nono. Selfstudier (talk) 13:44, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
